euCONSENT ASBL Advisory Board
The euCONSENT ASBL Advisory Board consists of the Chair, John Carr OBE, along with other eminent individuals selected for their expertise of various industries, regulatory landscapes and social policy issues which fall within the scope of euCONSENT.
The Board offers feedback on the non-governmental organisation’s progress from the perspective of stakeholders representing various sectors and jurisdictions. Board members provide the non-profit entity with valuable insight, and help to facilitate community engagement within their respective spheres.

John Carr
John Carr OBE is Chair to the Children’s Charities’ Coalition for Internet Safety and has agreed to chair this Board. He is one of the world’s leading authorities on children’s and young people’s use of the internet and associated new technologies, and a key figure in coordinating the activities of charities, academics and NGOs involved in online child protection across the EU.
John is also a Senior Adviser to ECPAT International, and an adviser to the Council of Europe, the International Telecommunication Union, and a former member of Microsoft’s Policy Board for Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
In June, 2010, John was honoured by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II with an OBE. In November, 2011, John received an award for “Outstanding Achievement” in the field of online child safety from the Washington DC based Family Online Safety Institute. John was nominated by Microsoft. In 2006, he was named by the New Statesman as one of 50 global “Modern Heroes”. In 2003 John was also named by New Media Age as one of the UK’s 50 most influential people in the new media industries.
John regularly contributes to TV and radio programmes on the subject of online safety and security. John was also formerly the internet columnist for Prospect magazine and has written about the internet for The Observer, The Times, The Daily Telegraph, New Statesman, The Guardian and many other journals, both in the UK and overseas.

Mieke Schuurman
Mieke is Director of Child Rights & Capacity Building at Eurochild, a leading network of organisations and individuals working to promote children's rights and well-being in Europe.
Mieke oversees Eurochild's children's rights work, including children's participation and children's rights in the digital environment, in particular focusing on online safety. She represents Eurochild externally at EU level and in particular with regards to the UN and the Council of Europe.
She speaks English, French, Dutch, and German.

She has worked extensively with various EU institutions contributing to building a social policy architecture for Europe.

Hans Martens

Hans Martens
Hans Martens (PhD) is Head of Digital Citizenship at European Schoolnet. He is responsible for the Digital Citizenship strategy of the organisation, managing a team of 15+ dedicated to a variety of public and private projects covering aspects such as digital skills, media literacy, online safety and children rights in a digital world. Within this context, Hans is leading – on behalf of the European Commission – the Better Internet for Kids initiative while coordinating the Insafe network of Safer Internet Centres, among other activity lines.
Hans joined European Schoolnet in February 2012. His key tasks include governance, management and outreach, team and project coordination, liaising with various Ministries of Education and European Commission units, as well as being the point of contact for other key strategic partners, from government, civil society and industry.

David is Chief Executive of the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) the UK's independent regulator of film and video content and commercial and internet content delivered via the UK's mobile networks). David is responsible for making executive decisions on behalf of the Board of Classification, ensuring the execution of policy, management, and handling external relations with the industries and people they serve, as well as other relevant bodies. David joined the BBFC in 2003 after a career in the Diplomatic Service, serving in South Asia, Central Africa and the former Yugoslavia. He is also a member of the Board of the Cinema Advertising Association (CAA).
The BBFC was the designated Age-verification regulator under the 2017 Digital Economy Act, a piece of UK child protection legislation that would have required all adult websites to implement age verification.

She heads the research group "Growing Up with Digital Media" at Leibniz Institute for Media Research | Hans-Bredow-Institut in Hamburg and is a member of the EU Kids Online Management Group for many years.
She is the coordinator of "Children Online: Research and Evidence (CO:RE)", a European knowledge base for researchers and stakeholders in the area of children and online media (see https://core-evidence.eu/).

Dirk Bosmans is the Director General of PEGI s.a. (Pan-European Game Information), the organisation that runs the age rating system for video games.

EuroISPA represents the interests of more than 2,300 European Internet service providers, with members including Google, Facebook, Amazon and Microsoft.
Thomas is a lawyer and has worked at eco's EU office in Brussel's since 2016.
