The proposals set out in this document build on the infrastructure initially developed by the euCONSENT project, funded by the European Commission, to deliver interoperable online age assurance, but also take into account more recent suggestions from certain national Data Protection Authorities (DPAs) in Europe to ensure that user data are kept even more secure. These proposals are therefore referred to as Version 2.0.
The ecosystem has also been rebranded as AgeAware® given the aspiration that this solution for interoperability in the online age assurance market will work globally, not only in the EU.
AgeAware® will enable users to access age-restricted digital services anonymously and conveniently, without repeating an age assurance process each time.
