PPPA-AGEVER-01-2020: “Outline and trial an infrastructure dedicated to the implementation of child rights and protection mechanisms in the online domain”

AGEify is a spinoff of UpcoMinds, which is currently commercializing the AGEify age verification solution. AGEify -initially developed as an internal product of UpcoMinds- allows website owners to replace the existing self-declarative age checks with more advanced web filters, which can allow their users and visitors to prove their age, and thus effectively protect children from age-sensitive content and online adult products and services. These can include eshops selling alcohol and tobacco, gambling and dating online services, adult movies and video games, etc. AGEify can also be used by the owners of physical shops, to better control the age of their customers, but also to age-protect physical devices, such as e-cigarettes, slot machines, automatic alcohol vendors, etc.

AGEify currently supports multiple methods through which the users can prove their age, including scanning of official documents, face recognition AI technologies, credit card verification, physician checks and integrations with ID providers. Users only need to prove their age with AGEify once, and then they can use this proof to unlock any age-sensitive online or physical resource that is protected by AGEify. In addition, certain users can be requested to prove their age using a method that ensures a very high Level of Assurance (LoA), before unlocking some very sensitive resources. User-to-device authentication is usually ensured by having the user enter a PIN, by using biometrics (such as fingerprint or FaceId) or by applying continuous behavioural authentication techniques. AGEify will not seek funding for this project.
