Revealing Reality is a multi-award-winning research agency that delivers behavioural and cultural insight for a wide range of clients. Established in 2004, we have predominantly worked on government and social research projects. Founded by anthropologists, the social sciences are still foregrounded in our approach, and we emphasise both quality and accuracy of research data.

At Revealing Reality, we are working at the cutting edge of policy around the digital behaviours of children, with clients including Ofcom, Information Commissioner, Google, the BBC, the British Board of Film Classification, the Children’s Commissioner for England and the Department for Digital Culture Media and Sport. Our research on the behaviours of young people around smartphones, porn, gaming and social media is currently underpinning Government and regulatory policy development in this space.

We are regularly commissioned to ensure that children’s voices are at the heart of decision making about issues that affect them, whilst also safeguarding them from harm. We are experienced in gathering children’s perspectives on issues surrounding digital and online behaviours for inclusion in content development, regulation and government policy-making. We are passionate about ensuring the voices of children reach decision makers and this project is an opportunity for us to enable that to happen, building our own reputation for excellence in this field.

We are a multi-disciplinary team of researchers, social scientists, strategists, designers & creative producers – our passion is delivering transformative insight to support both user-centred design and policy. We are known for our ability and work on complex subjects, strategic or exploratory projects and with hard to reach audiences.

Based in the UK, our research takes place both nationally and internationally and utilising a wide range of qualitative and quantitative methodologies, including:

  • Ethnographic and observational research
  • Qualitative in-depth interviews (face to face and remote)
  • Concept and user testing
  • Focus groups
  • Deliberative/co-design workshops
  • Longitudinal research and panels
  • Digital data collection and behavioural tracking
  • Remote data collection – e.g. through diary studies

We take an uncompromising approach to ethics and are regularly cleared by UK central government and charities to work with children vulnerable audiences. Our safeguarding training and practice is far above what is expected from the MRS Children and Young People’s Guidelines. All researchers have up-to-date Enhanced DBS checks, obtained via Revealing Reality. In line with the MRS Code of Conduct on Research with Children and Young People guidelines, Revealing Reality has a strict ethical framework for working with under-16s

At Revealing Reality we’ve invested heavily in our capability and capacity to produce a wide range of deliverables that are impactful and value for money for the projects we work on. We have an in-house production team comprising film makers, editors, illustrators and animators.
